UPDATE:
**After the public meeting was held today in Sarasota, the message conveyed is that that the “policing” of Surfers in the buoyed zones will be held at the discretion of the lifeguards. Sarasota lifeguards stated that they were more than willing to allow surfers to enjoy their sport in the local waters. The only stipulation is that they want to ensure that precautionary measures are taken to ensure the safety of swimmers in the water. So basically, we are free to surf wherever we want, just be extra nice to those lifeguards.**
A concerned surfer/kite-boarder just brought to the chapters attention the fact that Sarasota county is considering a new ordinance(that will potentially BAN SURFING) and it is being put out for public review and vote on Wednesday, June 23, 2010.
