WATERMANS CHALLENGE JUNE 7-8th COCOA BEACH

Written by suncoast | May 18, 2014 12:41:47 PM

Hi Everybody,

The Cocoa Beach Surf Museum and RonJon's Surf Shop is sponsoring the 15th Annual Waterman's Challenge in Cocoa Beach June 6-8 in Cocoa Beach. Once again there will be a Surfrider Smackdown between the Florida Chapters on Saturday the 7th and we need a team of up to six stoked surfers who want to do our Chapter proud. Two years ago we placed second but slipped to fifth last year so we are asking all concerned competitors to step up!

You must be a current paid Chapter member to participate. If you aren't there's plenty of time to contact us or go to suncoast.surfrider.org and join. Make sure you check the Suncoast Chapter box for your chapter affiliation!

The Chapter will pay the entry fee and contestants pay for lodging which we can share. We will drive over Friday night as heats start at 8:00-8:30 Saturday. We will return at the end of the day but you are welcome to stay overnight. This is an open format with no age or board categories and you surf as many waves as you can on which you will be judged. The payoff? Bragging rights for the next twelve months. This is a fun event with a lot of great competition. Here's a description of the event from the Surf Museum:

"The Cocoa Beach Surf Museum is proud to present the 2014- 15th Annual  Waterman's Challenge hosted by the International Palms Resort (IPR) & sponsored by RonJon Surf Shop. The Waterman's Challenge will take place on June 6-8 at International Palms Resort in Cocoa Beach. Registration is Friday 6-8pm at IPR Mambo's. Saturday the heats start on the beach at IPR 800am. Saturday Night the popular Waterman's Luau will take place at the Cocoa Beach Country Club Pavilion at 630pm. The event will include: food & drink, authentic Hawaiian Dancers, Live Music by The Aquanuts, raffles and more. Finals are Sunday 9am followed by the Trophy Presentation.
To save time and money you can Pre-register/purchase tickets for the Luau or the Contest at Eventbrite or follow the link on the Cocoa Beach Surf Museum Facebook page. There are limited slots at the "Waterman's Challenge Contest" and the "Waterman's Annual Luau" so please signup early to ensure your place in the lineup or at the dinner table. Signing up early at Eventbrite will save you more than 20.00 over a beach entry.
Every time you compete in the contest, attend the Luau or volunteer at the Waterman's challenge Weekend, you are helping The Cocoa Beach Surf Museum to attend to their Mission; "Preserving surfing history". Please join us for this  benevolent occasion."
Mahalo,
Dave Miller

Again, we pay for the Chapter entry fee. If you want to compete in any other heat or go to the luau you must pay separately. You can register online at the following  link which has the breakdown of classes and competitions for the complete event. You do not need to register online if you are only surfing the SF heat.
