Mulligan's St. Pete Beach

Scott Orsini, chapter vice-chair called to order 7:27pm

Advised the group that Jessica and Jake were on baby watch so that the rest of the board will be running the meeting.

Gave the floor immediate to Ron to talk about Movie night coming up on Saturday, August 15th.
4 movies to be played. Going to be classics night because the 4 movies are older.
The skim movie was suggested by Larry @ Island Shop since skim movies aren't ever seen on the big screen.
Ron explained the process of getting the movies in so much as how he had never done anything like this before and how stoked he is that he was to be able to actually talk to Bruce Brown Pictures about showing "Endless Summer".

Ron suggested that we pay more attention to north county, Pinellas. He mentioned that the surfshops up there are stoked about getting some meetings started up there. Ron mentioned that the surfshops in north county are working on the skateboard ban on Clearwater Beach and told chapter members about the ban. Boarderss use skateboards as tranportation in all of Clearwater Beach and it takes on a few bad eggs to make the whole thing sour.

Then back to movie night, Ron advised the movie night would be a great way to drum up membership and stoke for the chapter. He said Eckerd college incoming freshmen would be there. He said he invited surf shop owners to be there and spouses as sponsors and we would let them in for free. He said all sponsors and volunteers would have free admission.
Prizes include a 6foot rocket fish made by Pilot Surfboards, donated skim board by Island Surf Shop, donated skateboard deck from Murder Ride skateboards and donated trucks from Double Barrel Surf and Skate. Plus plenty of tossouts between the shows. Hoodaddy's are scheduled to play for a couple of sets between movies for a discounted price.

Volunteers are needed for Membership & information table.
Surfboard raffle, Ron would ask the sponsors to step up and be up there with their gifts as we drew the winning ticket.
Someone to handout bracelets to the crowd, or atleast to help the theatre staff with that.
Needed people to clean the theater after each movie. We would ask people to throw their trash away when they leave the theater.
Ron suggested giving people a discount ticket price of 5.00 if they signed up for Surfrider right there.

By a show of hands a majority of those present voted in Ron to the board member at large position.

Ron spoke up about north county again. Suggested having 1 meeting a month on the north end of the county.

Flash Gordon then advised that on October 10th at the beach bar in clearwater beach they're having a party and they invited Suncoast chapter there to celebrate Surfrider's 25th Anniversary. Has bands lined up, and would be a great way to kick off stoke for north county.
Flash also said we could get posters made up, would donate with his "own pocket money".
Jason advised we could get him a donation form.
Flash also suggested we make it a skateboarding theme.

Ron advised it was a great set up to get some of the skateboarders involved because of the ban. He advised at the skateboarding protest on Mandalay, they had like 30 kids there.

Jason gave the financial Report.
Says we paid the bill for the auction. Had 6 items sold. Brought in about 2grand and in account about 3grand total.

Upham.
Only new news brought to the table from Mike, a committee member, was that the county was granted about 4-5 million dollars to lay dredged fill on Upham Beach.

Scott then brought up moving the meeting nights to Wednesday's instead of Tuesday's. Several at the table said Wednesday's we not so great for them, so then Scott suggested Thursday's and a majority at the meeting agreed that the 2nd Thursday of the month would work for most who come on a regular basis.

Jason said he knows a good band, called "Bootleg" who came out of Bradenton Beach. Says the band would like to do something with us for Surfrider. Donate their time to us.
Julie suggested we reach out to Amanda then and get her in on it to help beef up stoke for the cause down there and get her some help.
Jason suggested we get with Venue's Beach House & Sand bar and perhaps doing it around the spring clean up on the adopted beach.

Rhonda Sanborn, found out about Suncoast Chapter from the Barefoot Wine Event. She suggested using the hospitality network here in the bay area. Says that community is huge and they are all about "respect the beach". She reminded us that tourisim is the #1 industry in this area. We should tap into that. She knows some people in the industry and could help get things started up north county too.

Anything else?
